Hospital St Martin de Porres
St. Martin de Porres catholic Mission Hospital takes its name from Martin de Porres, born in Lima, Peru in 1579. He became Rev. Brother in the Dominican Convent and was extraordinary in miraculous healing of sick peolpe. He died on November 3rd 1639 at the age of 60. He was canonised on May 6th 1962. One year later, the current hospital was inaugurated bij Cameroons First President, Ahmadou Ahidjo. Martin de Porres became Patron Saint.
Since 1953 the hospital was already managed by The Tertiary sisters of St. Francis(TSSF). From 1953 to 1963 the TSSF operated only the Maternity and the Dispensary. Because the standard of their health care increased continously, it became a modern general hospital with extension of fields of interest, among them Orthopedic Surgery.
Since 1998 the Foundation Orthopedic Aid Projects uses the facilities of the hospital and together it tries to give as many handicapt children a leg to stand on as possible
