rehabilitation
The process
of rehabilitation is a major aspect in treatment of these children. Without the
help of skilled orthopedic technicians en physical therapists, the children are
not able to walk properly again after the operations necessary to correct their
deformities. Depending on the seriousness of their deformities and the number of
corrections needed, the rehabilitation can take from several weeks to half a year.
The rehabilitation centre, called Sajocah is located in the north-west of Cameroon, 20 km. from the city of
Bamenda. The centre was founded in 1961
by The Tertiary sisters of St. Francis. It is a rehabilitation centre for physically and
mentally disabled children. After some time a Blind school was also incorporated,
as well as a shelter for orphans and single young mothers.
Every year
physical therapists, orthopedic technicians from The Netherlands and Belgium
make a visit for education and assistance.
Foundations
as Noaberhulp Sajocah, Lilianne Fonds and Development Assistence Cameroon are
involved to support Sajocah.
